New South Wales is the most populous and heavily
industrialised state in Australia. This state
offers breathtaking beaches and coastlines,
World Heritage National Parks, Outback, snow
and skiing, lush farming country and the dazzling
city lights of Sydney, (pop 4.5 million).
The total area of the State is 802 000 km2.
New South Wales lies in the temperate zone and
the climate is generally free from extremes
of heat and cold.
Natural features divide the State into four
main zones extending from north to south...
1. Seaboard and coastal lowlands.
2. Tablelands formed by the Great Dividing Range.
The Snowy Mountains region has the highest peak
on the continent, Mount Kosciusko, which is
2228 m.
3. Western slopes which is a fertile, undulating
region.
4. Western plains comprising almost two-thirds
of the State.
Sydney is the state capital, boasting a spectacular
harbour, a rich colonial history and a glowing
international reputation. It is without a doubt
one of the worlds greatest cities.
